Stitches in Time

The pictures above are a quilt that Mom made for me about a year ago - it is a modification to the "wedding ring" pattern. Mom took her first quilting class in 2000. We were just looking at her first quilt the other night. I calculated that if you put all of Mom's creations in the last 10 years (the quilts, throws, wall hangings and other projects) end to end, they would circle the globe 2.38 times at the equator. For my more scientific friends that is approximately one mole of quilts (6.02 X 10^23).
Mom's pain and weakness are a little worse each day. We talked to the hospice nurse this morning and the dosage on the pain meds was increased. That is keeping Mom comfortable. She is still able to get around and sat at the dining room table for dinner tonight. She had quite a few friends visit today. We try to make sure she doesn't get too worn out and gets enough time to nap. Aunt Penny is coming down from Barrington tomorrow to help out. I'm still looking for someone who wants to clean the bathrooms. Shari and Billy did it last weekend so I can probably sneak back to Boise without doing it myself and leave the dirty bathroom for Aunt Mary.

  1. Thanks for letting us know how to post a comment. We tried before but couldn't get through. (Getting old).
We are sorry to hear about Jeanette. We know she is comfortable with going to a better place. Her faith will keep her strong. We just pray that the suffering and pain would go away. That has to be the worst par.
Our prayers are with all of you and we thank you for keeping us posted on this blog.

  2. I was surprised that Aunt Jeanette has only been quilting since 2000! I thought she had been doing it her whole life. I am so fortunate to have a "Winter Blessings" wall hanging she gave me for my 39th (haha) birthday a couple of years ago. Love to all, Shannon Fischer

  3. My favorite Graduation gift from high school back in 91 was a twin size comforter that Aunt Jeanette made me for my dorm bed. I love it and still have it. Whenever someone graduates, I think "if only I knew how to sew!". I have taken two quilting classes with Maddie and still don't have a clue where to begin! I love you Aunt Jeanette and we are all praying for you!

  5. This is Deb - Jeanette's oldest daughter. I used to teach an exercise class called Jazzercise. Mom made me a t-shirt quilt out of all my old Jazzercise t-shirts. It was awesome. I had the quilt at one of my son's (MIKE) football games. A boy got hurt and I let him use the quilt to stay warm while they transported him to the hospital. I never saw the quilt again. I sure do miss that quilt, but mom has made many quilts since then for us as there is a never-ending supply of t-shirts in my house. I wonder why I didn't inherit her quilting ability. My poor grandkids will be wrapped in Swiffer dusters with my sewing ability.

  7. Mary, be sure to get those bathrooms cleaned before I show up. I'll take the outside if you take the inside. (Was that daughter of yours making fun of you?)
